Make an Impact with Your Trade Show Display Graphic Images

By Jim Deady So, youve decided on the trade show display you think will best represent your company. And after deciding on the model, the trade show graphicsyou select are the next most important element to help you really stand out at a trade show your graphics. Just as you want your trade show display materials to be as professional as possible, you want your trade show display graphic images to be as bold, clean and powerful as possible. The steps to achieving this are quite simple, but require a good marketing foundation, some creativity to develop eye-catching graphics and a thorough understanding of how to prepare those graphics for use in your trade show display. Here, we are going to focus on the last step gathering information and preparing your trade show graphic for submission to the trade show display companys production department. Each company has a different procedure which makes it essential you work directly with the company from which you purchased your display. Make sure you learn the specifics of each step of the design process, from submitting your graphics files to receiving a proof/sample of how the final product will look. Below are some details to keep in mind before you call, so you can help make the process as seamless as possible. Minimum size The files must be appropriately sized in order for the trade show graphics to work. If your image is too small, or the resolution of your photography is too low, blowing it up to a size that will fit your trade show display and accessories will result in a distorted or blurry image. Ask for the smallest and largest acceptable dimensions for your graphic images to avoid needless design steps with the design department. Lambda or Ink Jet – Lambda graphics produce higher resolution than ink jet graphics, but at a higher price. If you furnish graphics files that are a minimum of 400 dpi, you may be able to get finished graphics that are more than four times that size. If your budget is limited, you an ink jet graphics may be a better option. Color Match Your version of royal blue may not be the same as the trade show graphic designers version of royal blue. And asking to see an electronic sample can be tricky, because the different settings on different computer monitors can distort the colors appearance and the same goes for printouts as well. Because of this, many designers use CMYK or RGB color models as standardized guidelines for choosing universal colors. Find out which ones your design team follow and choose a color that best represents your company from there. Fonts It is recommended you include the font files for the different types of fonts used in your trade show display graphic images especially if your graphic combines actual text files with graphic files to create one graphical element or file. Format Should your trade show graphic be submitted as an Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark Xpress or InDesign file? Does the design department prefer a .tif, .pdf, .eps file or some other file format? Also, should you submit your materials on a CD, DVD, ZIP disc or upload it to a FTP site? Production Time Begin your submission timeline by backtracking from the time you expect to receive the completed trade show display. Ask your customer service rep how long it will take the company to complete the trade show graphic production to determine when you should expect delivery. Dont make the schedule too tight you want to leave some wiggle room for yourself and the designers in case there are any obstacles or last minute details to be worked out. Your trade show display introduces your company to trade show visitors and prospective clients before they ever meet anyone from your company. Your trade show graphics are the most important part of creating that first impression, and can make or break your image. By discussing your graphics concept(s) with your customer service rep at the very beginning of the design process you can streamline the process to ensure your trade show graphic images will be the most compelling they can be. Follow these preliminary guidelines to save yourself and the graphic design team time and frustration. Seduction, Dating Tips – How to be a Challenge for Women to Overcome

By Vincent DiCarlo It’s a proven fact. People don’t value things that come to them easy. The same thing can be said about men who make themselves too available to the women they are interested in. It’s a subtle balance though. How do you persist with a woman and be a challenge at the same time? It’s a question I get ALL the time. Let me tell you a little secret: In a woman’s mind, she has a little switch. (Not a real switch, it’s just a metaphor) And we call that switch the “No-Challenge Switch”. If that switch ever gets flipped, you’re pretty much cooked. Out of the game, so to speak. So you want to be sure not to ever flip it. There are a few behaviors that do this. Any one the following: 1. Calling her on a predictable schedule. If you call a woman on a predictable schedule like once a day, or even once every other day, she will pick up on the pattern. She has just won. She feels that no matter what she does or says to you she will always have that security of your regular phone call. You are no challenge, and there is no reason for her to plot and discuss with her girlfriends about how to get you. Her plotting to get you = Good. Her talking about you = Good. Her expecting your regular call = Bad. 2. Consistently answering her calls If you answer her call every time, then this does two things. Firstly, it demonstrates to her that you are VERY interested. After all, who consistently answers their phone nowadays? Secondly, it shows her that you don’t have much going on in your life and you probably aren’t very busy. This is unattractive to her. She wants a man who has a life of his own and is actively persuing his own passions. 3. Always trying to get together with her. If, every time you talk to her, you make it a point to try and get together with her, it will come off as desperate or needy. She will feel obligation, she will feel as if you want something from her. Sometimes you should call her simply for your own amusement. Call just to pass the time when you are driving. Call her just to tell her about something crazy that happened to you while at work. When I say you should be a challenge, I don’t mean that you should be a jerk. What I simply mean is that you put value on your own life. Put value on your time. Be unpredictable, be unavailable sometimes but when you are with her, give her experiences and moments that she will never forget. — Vincent DiCarlo is a world famous dating coach. Start Your Seeds Indoors For A Jump On Spring Planting

By Mary Hanna Spring is creeping in, hallelujah, and its time for us to start digging in the dirt. For all of you frustrated gardeners that live in colder climes I bet you cant wait to start planting your garden beds with flowers, herbs and vegetables. Over the long winter you forget how much you miss those showy blooms and the riot of color a beautiful garden can supply. If you live up north, there are a variety of ways to cope with the short growing season. Frost, which can happen as late as May or June, delays your plans for planting seeds. With the many quick growing plants this does not pose a problem but with vegetables and ornamentals a little head start is very helpful for healthy, lush plants. Starting those plants indoors solves the problem of unwelcome frost. Getting an early start indoors will really make a difference for frost intolerant plants. Another benefit of starting seeds indoors is that as soon as the frost danger has passed, you can plant your seedlings into your garden giving you a good extra month of gorgeous blooming flowers. When starting seeds indoors, you must simulate the same conditions as those planted outside. Your basics for all plant life, whether inside or out, are soil, water and light. The difference is that your indoor seedlings will need a little more attention and each plant will have its own considerations. Always start with sterilized soil, this is essential. There is a fungus known as Damping-off-Disease that can wipe out your hard work in a matter of days. For some reason the propagation of plants indoors allows just the right conditions for the spores of these fungi to grow rampantly. You can easily avoid this plight by using sterile soil or a sterile medium. You can use your own soil but it involves a lot of work and may not be worth the effort when commercial mediums are readily available. To use your own soil, you must sterilize it in the oven after sifting out the clumps and debris. Most commercial mediums sometimes referred to as soil less are usually a combination of peat moss and vermiculite. When using these mediums make sure it is clearly marked on the bag that they are sterilized. After deciding the medium that you will use, there are a variety of containers available to start your seeds. I have used flats, peat pots, dixie cups and even egg cartons successfully. As with any plant, the size of the container used is determined by the plant you are growing and only experience can guide you here. Seedlings require an enormous amount of light, either sunlight or artificial light or a combination of both. If they dont get sufficient light the plants will get leggy or spindly, denying them a healthy start on the way to your garden. Even in a bright window with a lot of sun you may still need to use artificial light. If you do need to use artificial light, buy bulbs that are manufactured specifically for that purpose. Even though they are for the singular purpose of growing plants you still must keep them on for at least fourteen (14) hours a day. No artificial light can compensate for the intensity of direct sunlight. The most important element of growing your seedlings indoors is watching the moisture. They must be kept moist but not soggy. The most advantageous way to water is from the bottom. Set your pots in a tray and pour the water into the tray allowing the pots to soak up all of the water. Never let your pots stand in water as this will cause them to rot. If you have your pots in a very sunny window place them in a tray with gravel. Keep the gravel watered just under the pots to keep them from drying out. When you first start your seedlings cover them tightly with plastic wrap. This helps to maintain warmth and moisture, but be careful to uncover them when they begin to sprout so they dont smother. I know you may become anxious in January to start getting ready for planting season but it is important not to start you seeds indoors to early. If they outgrow your pots, you will have to thin them and transplant them to bigger containers. This is not the best scenario. For best results, you want to transplant them once outdoors as soon as they are large and healthy enough to survive. A good rule of thumb to start with is four to six weeks after sowing the seeds, making sure they have at least two sets of leaves. Right before transplanting your thriving seedlings, feed them with a very weak solution of a water soluble fertilizer to give them strength through the transplanting process. Keep a diary on what has worked for you, since experience is always the best teacher. Experiment a little each year with one or two new flowers, herbs or vegetables, this will add variety and spice to your garden. Go to gardening forums on the internet and join the group, the experiences of others is always helpful and the spirit of community is enjoyable and satisfying. Happy Planting! Innovative Trade Show Booth Lighting

By Dick Wheeler Never underestimate the value of the proper lighting of your trade show exhibit. Creative lighting for your trade show booth is sure to lure more visitors. On the other hand, a poorly lit exhibit detracts from the trade show exhibit space and can leave it largely ignored. Your trade show lighting professional can use dramatic illumination techniques to create a show stopping effect or simply use lighting to highlight graphics and/or products. It is essential for the lighting designer to know the exhibitors goals, exhibit design and budget before presenting lighting options. Once this is established, the trade show lighting professional can offer multiple options to maximize the visual appeal of the exhibit display. By innovative use of different types of lighting, the same trade show booth can have a completely different look, effect and mood. There is a wide range of lighting choices ranging from a simple clamp on arm, to high quality fluorescent lighting, track or rail lighting, recessed lighting or fully programmable, changing color LED lighting fixtures. Each of these forms of illumination serves a different purpose. The selection of the proper lighting product is therefore based on what effect the exhibitor desires to achieve. For example, in the more decorative trade show booth using tension fabric, the fully programmable, changing color LED lighting creates a dynamic, dramatic effect that is certain to draw the attention of trade show attendees. For a clean appearance in the same trade show booth, very white fluorescent lighting works well. If, however, dramatic shadows are desired, certain types of targeted track lighting may be preferred. Quality clamp on arm lights can be versatile enough to deliver good white light on focal points or to wash lighting evenly on backwalls. High quality white light ensures that colors and graphics are accurately displayed. Since light can also alter color, it is essential that your white light renders consistent and true color. Keep in mind that when searching for the right lighting effect, there are a number of price options that can help you reach your goals. Be mindful that there are rental options available for very high end lighting that may be an appropriate way to satisfy your trade show budget constraints. Rob Cohen, Vice President/Owner of Display Supply & Lighting, Inc. of Itasca, Illinois, offers examples of how a professional trade show lighting company can help you avoid two of the more common exhibit mistakes. They are: 1. Be aware of the electrical codes, capabilities and constraints in exhibit halls. Find out in advance what is allowed or disallowed in the convention hall to meet local lighting requirements. Find out requirements for exhibit halls whether they be the McCormick Convention Center in Chicago, the Kaiser Convention Center in Oakland, the Moscone Center in San Francisco, the Las Vegas Convention Center, the San Jose and Santa Clara Convention Centers, etc. Be sure your trade show booth lighting products meet the exhibit halls specified criteria for trade show exhibitors. For example, trade show halls require 3- wire grounded plugs on all lighting fixtures at the trade show. These fixtures are not commonly available at large volume box stores. 2. Scope out the location of the exhibitors trade show site. This is important as not all types of light bulbs are allowed in some facilities. Recent regulations restrict a couple of major conference facilities from using certain types of light bulbs often for safety reasons. Cohen says it is critical that your exhibit house either understand their lighting options or have a relationship with a company that can advise them on trade show lighting opportunities and concerns. Remember, lighting can either attract or detract visitors to your trade show booth. It is best to know what your exhibit display emphasis is and what your lighting options are before you design a lighting system for your trade show display. Real Estate Marketing Challenges — And How to Overcome Them

By Brandon Cornett All marketers face challenges, and real estate marketing is no different. But sometimes we have a way of letting our challenges grow “too big for their britches.” In our minds, hurdles can become impossibilities, when in reality theyre anything but impossible. To overcome a real estate marketing challenge, you simply have to look at it with a fresh perspective, ask the right questions, and then charge ahead. With that in mind, here are some of the common marketing challenges Ive heard real estate agents express over the years, as well as ways to overcome those challenges: Challenge #1 – I dont know anything about marketing. Every marketer approaches their first project with little or no practical experience. Practical experience comes from, well, practical experience. So in your real estate marketing endeavors, start by gaining a knowledge base through reading and research. Then build on that base through actual experimentation. “Analysis paralysis” affects a lot of would-be marketers. This is the condition where every element of a marketing campaign is analyzed, scrutinized and conceptualized — to the point that nothing actually gets done. Learn as much as you can about a particular marketing channel or tactic by studying what others have done. Then get out there and do it for yourself. Sure, youll make mistakes. We all do. But thats part of the learning process. Challenge #2 – I dont know where to start. If youre new to the world of real estate marketing, start with the basics. First determine your goals. This will make the entire process easier. Too often, I see people define marketing goals that are overly vague. “I want to grow my business,” is not a marketing goal — its something we all want. Of course you want to grow your business. But to gain any direction from this step, you have to get specific. For instance: “I want to create an educational website with free downloads and reports, and promote the site with direct mail. Using this system, I want to capture 20 new leads per month.” Now thats a goal — specific, measurable and directional. Challenge #3 – I dont know anything about technology. Technology. The word alone scares people. But in truth, marketing technology has evolved to a point of user-friendliness that it never had before. Todays marketing tools — from website creation to list management — are more usable than ever, even by people with little to no technical skill. And even when you can’t find user-friendly technology to help you with a certain marketing task, you can bet theres a vendor willing to step in. When researching technology, break the process down into simple parts. First, refer back to your goals from Challenge #2 above. What technology can help you achieve those goals? Once youve answered this question, youll have taken an ocean of technological possibilities and narrowed them down to a channel that best applies to you. And always remember: technology can deliver the message, but it cant create the message. It can help you show the value of your services, but it cant create that value in the first place. That’s your job. Challenge #4 – I dont have time. This one is simply a matter of priorities. If your marketing is a top priority, then you can make time for it. Heres an easy way to do just that: Start small, with just an hour a day. Spend 15 minutes reading up on a particular marketing tactic, and 45 minutes actually practicing it. The 15 minutes of research also helps reduce Challenge #1 (not knowing anything about marketing). Challenge #5 – Im new to real estate. Every expert from every industry was the new guy or gal at some point. They managed, and so can you. Even if youre new to real estate, youre still a professional, right? Youll find that people judge you by your personal behavior as much as your credentials. When it comes to your marketing message, this means being knowledgeable and professional. Proper spelling, relevant information, professional design and delivery — these factors add up, and they’ll help you make a strong impression regardless of how long you’ve been practicing real estate. * Copyright 2006, Brandon Cornett. Lose Weight the Healthy Way

By Janae Wentworth Fad diets and quick weight loss gimmicks have grown in popularity over the last several years. Yet, one thing remains clear among most experts: A healthy diet combined with exercise is the key to losing weight and keeping it off. When you are trying to lose weight, it is important to reduce the number of calories in your diet. You can do this by making healthy food choices and watching your portion sizes, but you should not starve yourself or use fad diets. A healthy diet includes: Low amounts of fat. You need some fat in your diet for energy and vitamin absorption. But, no more than 30 percent of your total daily calories should come from fat. Also, be aware of the types of fat you are eating. High levels of saturated fat, which mainly is found in animal and dairy sources, can lead to high blood cholesterol levels. This puts you at greater risk of heart disease and other health concerns. A healthier alternative is monounsaturated fat. This type is found in olives, olive oil, cashews and avocados. It actually has been shown to reduce the risk of heart disease. Plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole-grain products. This is where most of your calories should come from. These low-fat foods provide vitamins, minerals, complex carbohydrates and other substances that are good for your health. Your diet also should be: High in fiber Low in cholesterol Low to moderate in sugars, salt and sodium Exercise is an important part of any healthy weight loss plan. Try to include at least 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week. Walking, gardening, dancing, jogging and swimming are all great ways to keep moving. There are many benefits to exercise. It reduces the risk of obesity, hypertension and heart disease. It also increases longevity, and reduces feelings of anxiety, depression and stress. With a regular exercise routine, most people start to see and feel results in about four to six weeks. J. Will it be AdultFriendFinder or Match? 10 Tips for Finding the Best Online Dating Site for You

By Jennifer L. Hunt Question: What could Match.com, eHarmony, and AdultFriendFinder possibly have in common and why do you care? Answer: They are all online dating sites designed with a very specific objective and person in mind. Fact is, an amazing number of people sign up to the wrong dating site and wonder why it doesn’t work for them… So, if you are looking for a serious relationship, don’t you think it would be a mistake to join AdultFriendFinder? Yes, it may be fun to look around and flirt, etc., but are you really being honest with yourself and with the other members of that site? eHarmony is intended for people looking for a long-term, serious relationship, A.K.A. “looking for marriage”. AdultFriendFinder is intended for people looking for a casual, and in most cases, a sexual relationship, A.K.A. “not looking for marriage”. Match.com falls somewhere in between, focusing on casual dating that may potentially turn into a long term relationship. There are literally hundreds, even thousands, of dating sites to choose from. How do you know which ones are right for you? As you begin your search for the best online dating site, you will probably be surprised by the number of options. Online dating services are popping up daily on the internet, making the decision of choosing the “right” service a bit overwhelming. It’s well worth the extra time to find 2 or 3 dating sites that fit your personality and offer the services that you’re looking for. Narrow down the list of potential online dating sites to your top 3 and then compare them to determine the pros and cons of each one. Pay particular attention to the monthly cost and features offered by each dating site. While more and more ‘free’ dating sites are becoming available, most sites differentiate between free and paid memberships. In general, most dating sites will let you upload your profile and a few photos, and search through their database of profiles for free (but they may not let you see all of the details). You will most likely have to pay for any additional features. Once you’ve chosen a few, sign up for each of them. It only takes a little extra time and you’re sure to meet different people on each of the different sites. Here are some excellent tips for finding a service that will best match your needs: Establish a budget. Decide how much money you want to spend, and set a budget. Most online dating websites charge a recurring monthly fee, but there are a few that have a one-time membership fee, and even fewer totally free sites. Determine up front how much you want to spend so that you can narrow your choices and avoid sites that don’t fit in your budget.Ask for references. Talk to friends and family to see if they or anyone they know has had a good experience with a particular online dating website. If you don’t know anyone, you can always check out an online dating guide. Just go to your favorite search engine and type in “online dating guide”. You’ll get plenty to choose from.Try to choose an online dating service that has been around for a couple of years. The best way to find out how long a website has been around is to go to the website’s “About Us” page where you will learn not only the date the site was started but also the company’s philosophy. Another good source of information is the FAQ, or frequently asked questions page on the website.Do your research. Take the time to check your favorite search engines for popular dating sites. Try searching terms like “online dating”, “meet someone online”, or “online personals” to generate lists of potential online sites for you.Consider specialized or niche sites. Think about any special interests or unique situations that might require a more specialized online dating website. If you are interesting in something specific like Single Parents, Christian Dating, Jewish Dating, Senior Dating, Gay Dating, or Adult Dating, make sure you include those terms in your search (see #4 above).Determine the pros and cons of your top picks. Narrow down the list of potential online sites to your top three and compare them to determine pros and cons of each one. Compare them buy cost and features that are interesting to you such as live chat, online video, and number of members on the site.Sign up to multiple dating sites. Don’t be afraid to sign-up for multiple websites or change services if you are not satisfied. The goal is to meet new people online and enjoy the process. If a particular site is not meeting your needs, move on before you invest more of your money on a service that isn’t right for you.For safety and convenience, look for online dating services that offer onsite messaging and email services. This will allow you to communicate with people using a special email provided by the dating service instead of using your personal email or IM (instant message). You should stay anonymous, at least at first. You wouldn’t walk into a bar with a name and address tag around your neck, would you? It is important, however, to use a valid email address when signing up for your account. Most dating sites give you the option to receive email notification of replies to your personal ad, and some even forward the reply right to your email box. You won’t want to miss these emails! I suggest that you use a free email account, such as Yahoo Mail or Hotmail , to reduce the possibility of spam. Just remember to check your new mailbox!Make sure the dating service offers secure payment methods. Also, look at the type of payments accepted (credit card, check, money order, PayPal, etc.) to ensure the options work for you.Look for websites that offer free trials. Look for an online dating service that will allow you to browse profiles and photos before you join, or a service that offers a free trial period so you can talk to people that you are interested in meeting before you have to pay. This allows you to fully understand the number and types of potential matches already signed up with the service. Kids and Teens and the Phone: Creative Solutions for Your Family

By Jeff Herring I’m always impressed and amazed by the creative solutions that parents and families come up with to solve problems. This creative and elegant solution came from a family with whom I once worked. Their son had his own phone and an answering machine that they had provided. They decided that whenever their son violated his phone privileges, he would put the following on his answering machine or cell phone that said, “Hi, this is John. I’ve violated my phone privileges and I can’t talk to you today. So just leave a message and I’ll talk to you tomorrow at school.” This one worked so well that they had to use it only twice. Another family created solution Another family has learned just to stop calls at a certain hour of the night. After that time, no non-emergency calls for their child would be accepted. They define an emergency as something that would cause imminent physical or emotional harm. If you try these solutions and they don’t work, or you are saying to yourself, “That would never work in my family!” that could indicate a problem that requires professional assistance. Some folks may see the phone as a small problem. But I think it’s important to manage a small problem well. It’s good practice for the bigger issues that may lie ahead. Turning Point

By Sebastian Foss One of the greatest moments in one’s life is when somebody encounters a turning point. This is a sudden, miraculous and total change of direction. Possibilities are numerous during a turning point. Hope is restored to hopeless, joy takes over sorrow, failure transforms into success, weakness is exchanged for strength, the impoverished becomes prosperous, solutions emerge problems, while stumbling blocks become stepping stones to great accomplishments. In whatever situation you may find yourself, a turning point is possible. In your lent situation of helplessness, help is coming your way now. In that situation of persistent delay, a reversal is imminent. Where the earthly specialists have tried f best and concluded your case an impossibility, the Lord is stepping into it to take away the impossible and make it possible. God’s people were in captivity, the enemies rejoiced. They searched lilt found no one who could alter their diabolic design for Zion. Having I in that state for so long, the children of God lost hope for a change. By Rebecca Galeney In this day and age of computers and fast living and strains of everyday life no time to relax, a great way to de-stress is to knit, it is a highly relaxing form of art, many famous people use knitting to relax and make something that you can be proud of. To see something completed that you have worked so hard on is very rewarding, an achievement and very satisfying. Make a sweater for nothing using recycled yarn, find free knitting patterns on the Internet. Visit a library for those knitting books with endless knitting patterns and how to knit instructions. All knitting instructions use two basic knitting stitches, the knit stitch and the purl stitch once you know these two stitches you will be able to follow most knitting instructions which are just variations and combinations of those two knitting stitches used in various ways. Start with easy patterns do not be too ambitious with your first attempt and work to increase your skill level which will come with more practice, the most important thing of all is to enjoy it. When you find yourself with a little free time pick up your knitting and create yourself a sweater you can say is unique and I made that. Everyone is looking for something that is original and different, knit for others. Consider opening your home and hosting a knitting class for neighbours and friends once a week to gather and enjoy the pleasure of teaching them a new skill, you will enjoy the company and learn tips from others. Think about birthday and Christmas presents you could make rather than purchase, you will have fun making them, save money on gifts and add that personal touch that means so much to people if they think you have spent all that time and effort making them personally a gift that is so special. There are many great ideas out there to help you be creative.
